Job Descriptions

Dunsborough

The overall Job Description is for Volunteers to have a servant heart and a desire to help run various aspects of a programme that will see Leavers safer and giving them a positive experience.

There are many different areas that make up “The Zone” and they are all as important as each other.

Here is a brief idea on what each area is.

  • Main Tent – This marquee has Cover Bands playing and in between band sets, top 40/rock style DJ music. Volunteers are needed to help with overseeing the crowd and keeping things run smoothly by spotting crowd surfers and possible other areas of concern or harm.  We are also looking for GOOD cover bands and top 40 style DJ’s for this tent.
  • Sauna - Known as the sauna because of the doof doof dance music getting everyone into party/dance mode and as a result mega heat from everyone, creating steam and water droplets from the side walls.
  • Lounge & Play Station Tents - During leavers some of the participants just want to relax and chill out. The acoustic lounge is an opportunity for young people to listen to some mellow music and actually talk to each other. It is set up coffee shop style and they can purchase food and drink in the tent next door. This area will also look after the Play Station tent and assist with queues for food.
  • Pamper Tent - is very similar to the lounge tent in its relaxed environment. The main task is once again to engage leavers in conversation etc. and to provide a place for them to chill out and relax. In this tent there will be nails painted, face painting and short videos.
  • Silent Disco, Photo Booth & Area F - The Silent Disco is new for this year.  We are looking for DJ’s wanting to compete for supremacy and volunteers to help with those coming in and leaving to ensure everyone has a great time.  This area also covers the photo booth where Leavers can take their own happy snaps as well as the central part of area F.
  • Rides Area - The main reason for this area is to help Leavers burn off some steam. Rides include; Bucking Bull, Jousting, Surf board, Fly motion, Climbing wall and more.
  • Toilets - We need people to clean toilets. It sounds unpleasant, and in many ways it is. There is the smelly and sometimes revolting state of the portaloos… For the majority of the time you are not actually cleaning toilets at all. You are having conversations with people as they line up and helping the cues move along by finding opened cubicles. There is rarely a time when you are not interacting with leavers or helping them in some way. If you don’t mind a bit of unpleasantness to do a job that always starts conversations and that people are genuinely grateful for, then this job is as good as any. Toilets – the great equaliser.
  • Towers/Border Patrols - Although this role see’s less interaction with Leavers, it is vital to still talk where you can. This role keeps a bird’s eye view of the area, reporting any issues and stopping people coming in other than thrrough the front entrance.
  • Front/Exit Gate - You are the first/Last port of call for the Green team. A friendly greeting and goodbye is vital for a happy environment.
  • Traffic - This area of volunteering ideally is looking for older/more experienced road users.  For those working on the road you will need to be qualified and as such we can offer the accredited training prior to Leavers.  You will be directing busses, cars, emergency vehicles and the parking area.  Those directing in the parking area do not need to be accredited, however we are looking for experienced drivers to help in this area.
  • Central Areas - When the crowds get bigger, your job is key to a safe environment. Your role is to have mini conversations, engage with the youth and mix and mingle. This is not an observing task but one that requires you to interact as much as possible.
  • First Aid - Looking after the unhappy/injured little veggie-mites. You will be working closely with Drug ARM and St John Ambulance teams. We need two skilled people on First- Aid certificate. Also some that can assist with bringing people into the first-aid area and stopping crowds from entering the area and feeding information back to concerned friends.
  • Greetings Team – You are the faces that Leavers see as they arrive at the Zone and exit the buses and cars. You will welcome them and start talking to them while lining up to come into the Zone and also as they are waiting for buses to come pick them up. If you love to talk this is the perfect job.
  • Response Team - The role of the response team is simply to be able to move freely between locations as the needs arise. For example: the start of the night to help with queues entering and end of the night as they leave.  During the nights there might be a need for extra hands on deck in a variety of areas.  This team’s role is to be flexible and be able to move to where they are needed.
  • Operations Area - Looking after our volunteers needs, yes you get to play mum or dad to around 200 volunteers plus Police and Security during the night. This area is divided into two parts.  Site Office and Rest/ Food AreaSite Office overseeing handing out supplies, two ways, torches, gloves etc.  And food area – looking after our teams and their stomachs
  • Campsite – These are very Important people who we LOVE, as they look after the volunteers when they are not on duty at the Zone, by cooking breaky and lunch for us all.
